Steelpan European is a pan-european organisation united by an inherent and genuine
interest to explore and develop the full potential of the steelpan instrument
and the talent which abounds in its members.
Steelpan European was founded in May 1999 by steelband representatives of Denmark,
Germany, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom at the Embassy of
Trinidad & Tobago in Bruxelles.
Soon after other countries as Finland, Sweden and The Netherlands joined the association.
This is how Pan Trinbago describes itself in its history section:
Pan Trinbago is recognized as the parent body for steelbands not only in
Trinidad and Tobago but in all parts of the world where such bands may exist.
We are not only a national organization, representing the largest cultural group
in our country, but an international organization which is active in the
promotion of a new and vibrant musical form that is fast achieving universal
recognition and acceptance.
Pan Trinbago was formed in 1971 but the Steelband Movement has been organized
since 1950. Pan Trinbago’s predecessor was the National Association of
Trinidad and Tobago steelbandsmen.
